Typical Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead technical decision-making and architectural strategy for engineering teams

  • Balance hands-on coding with team leadership and mentorship

  • Build and maintain scalable, high-performance applications across front-end, back-end, or full-stack systems

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and leadership to align technology with business needs

  • Define and enforce engineering best practices, code quality standards, and CI/CD pipelines

  • Help hire, mentor, and grow engineering teams , fostering a strong technical culture

  • Optimize system performance, scalability, and security

Common Qualifications

While each startup has its own hiring criteria, many engineering lead and technical lead roles in our network look for:

  • 6+ years of experience in software engineering, with leadership experience

  • Strong expertise in backend frameworks (Node.js, Django, Flask, Ruby on Rails, FastAPI, Spring Boot) and/or front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.js, Svelte)

  • Experience with databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis)

  • Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Strong coding skills in JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Ruby, Go, or Java

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and collaborating with leadership on technical roadmaps

  • Background in performance optimization, distributed systems, and software scalability

  • Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring solutions
