Lead Software Engineer

Shipping & handling responsibilities:

- Lead, and hire a high-caliber team of software engineers to solve company goals while remaining hands-on.

- Encourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement.

- Establish a sense of urgency and direction, set expectations with the team and individuals.

- Work closely with product management, analysts, architects, engineering leads, and business stakeholders to define requirements, guide product and architectural vision, lead key technical and design discussions, and prioritize delivery efforts.

- Iterate quickly in an agile process.

- Contribute to the technical success of the company by providing architectural guidance to Shippo’s main web application and beyond.

- Mentor more junior engineers on engineering best practices.

- Exceptional problem solving skills: demonstrated ability to understand business challenges and translate those into technical solutions.

Requirements

* Must have at least 10+ years of hands-on engineering experience building high volume distributed systems. 
* 5+ years of experience in full stack software development
* Coding experience in a variety of front end and back end programming languages (e.g. Python, Go, Java, Ruby, javascript). Python is our preferred language.
* Experience working in cloud environments with tools such as Kubernetes for managing clusters
* Experience working with Backend and frontend frameworks (e.g. Django, FastAPI, React)
* Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
* BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Bonus

* Extensive experience in AWS
* Experience working with server-side MVC frameworks (e.g. Django, .NET, Spring, Rails, Phoenix)

Our Compensation Ship policy:

We believe compensation is a custom experience and are commited to fair and equitable compensation practices. The standard base pay range for this role is min $191k to a max $258 annual salary. We tend to anchor our pay in the middle of this range ($220k) with most offers that we make. Since we are focused on hiring Shippos Everywhere, we have 2 US pay ranges, a standard compensation range for the majority of the US and a standard +1 compensation range for those who live in areas where the cost of labor is higher, such as NYC and California.

The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: financial budgets, work experience, training, transferable skills, business needs, and market value. The base pay salary ranges are subject to change and may be modified in the future. Total compensation for this role will include, equity, medical, dental, vision and other benefits noted in our Shippos “package” section.

Our people, much like the packages we help ship, are all over the world. This means, through our remote-first program, “Shippos Everywhere”, our roles can be based anywhere in the US with the exception of Delaware, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Hawaii, New Mexico and West Virginia and many roles can be based internationally.
