THE ROLE

Join our team as our very first ML Engineer in Canada, a pivotal role where you'll collaborate closely with our Lead Consultant to establish our ML practice in Datatonic Americas.

Building upon the success of our ML team in EMEA, we're thrilled to extend our expertise to Canada and are in search of an enthusiastic individual ready to build this exciting venture.

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Datatonic, your responsibilities expand beyond designing and optimizing ML models. You'll be instrumental in team growth, technical leadership in client projects, and driving successful client engagements. Drawing from your senior-level expertise and a proven track record on various projects, you'll be an essential addition, especially if you have prior experience in consulting, client-facing interactions, or internal client management.

Your contributions will directly shape the success of our Machine Learning practice as we tackle challenging projects across diverse industries, leveraging the power of Google Cloud's ML and GenAI services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Growing the Practice : Work closely with our Lead Consultant to cultivate and expand the Machine Learning practice, broadening the strategic aspect of your role.

  • Value-added Consulting: Take the lead in client engagements, working with stakeholders to understand their objectives and milestones and translate these into ML solutions that solve real-world problems.

  • Machine Learning Lifecycle: Manage the complete machine learning lifecycle, from data preparation and model development to productionization, monitoring, and maintenance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and document project details for knowledge sharing.

  • Research and Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in machine learning and AI, and apply them to solve business problems effectively

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years experience as an ML Engineer, ideally from a consulting background.

  • Comfortable working with Python and related machine learning libraries, delivering code in well-tested CI/CD pipelines

  • Proven experience productionising use cases created by data scientists for a range of model types

  • Familiarity with cloud environments (Google Cloud, AWS, Azure)

  • Familiarity with developing machine learning models and solutions, with a preference for expertise in Google Cloud GenAI

  • Familiarity exposing ML components through web services or wrappers (e.g. Flask in Python)

  • Good knowledge of data engineering, ETL and data preprocessing concepts

  • Knowledge of scaling up computations (GPUs, distributed computing, ..)

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

This position is fully remote and available for candidates anywhere in Canada.

The salary is between CAD$130,000 - $150,000.

What success looks like as a Senior ML Engineer at Datatonic:

While the position is a hands-on technical role, we'd be particularly interested to find candidates with a desire to support in building and growing the team and actively engage in client discussions. Your responsibilities will involve building trusted relationships with prospects, finding creative ways to use machine learning to solve problems, scoping projects, and overseeing the delivery of these engagements.

To be successful, you'll need a strong foundation in Machine Learning & Data Science, adept at selecting the right tools and approaches for various use cases, ensuring the design, development, and deployment of precise and high-performing machine learning models.

Your commitment to accuracy, reliability, and optimization will be essential. You'll also excel in communication, positively influencing our team and cultivating client relationships while providing mentorship to junior members.

Your contribution to our knowledge base and dedication to staying at the forefront of ML and AI advancements will be vital, allowing you to lead technology adoption when necessary, ensuring innovative AI solutions meet real business needs.

Datatonic is a UK based company with an Americas division based in Canada. The Canadian team is remote-only, mostly distributed across North and South America. This role is open to folks based anywhere in Canada or East Coast US.

Salary: CAD 140,000$ - CAD 155,000$
